Do You Know About Players Who Have Taken Hat-tricks In The History Of World Cups?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The players to have taken a hat-trick in World Cups are Chetan Sharma from India (against New Zealand on 31 October, 1987), Saqlain Mushtaq from Pakistan (against Zimbabwe on 11 June, 1999), Chaminda Vaas from Sri Lanka (against Bangladesh on 14 February, 2003), Brett Lee from Australia (against Kenya on 15 March, 2003), and Lasith Malinga from Sri Lanka (against South Africa on 28 March, 2007).

A hat trick is a rarity, as it involves taking three wickets off three consecutive deliveries, not something one can repeat ever so often. This is highlighted by the fact that in all, there are only 24 hat-tricks in the history of one day internationals. And when the hat trick is in a World Cup, the rarity is further rarified, for the World Cup itself happens only once in every four years.

However, whenever there is an occasion, there are the stars to provide the brilliance to the occasion, and the bigger the occasion, the brighter the stars. Of all hat-tricks in one day internationals, the first one was taken by Jalal-ud-din from Pakistan, against Australia, on 20 September, 1982; this was not, however, a World Cup match. The most recent was the one taken by Lasith Malinga against South Africa during the ICC World Cup 2007 (mentioned above).
