If Atheists Don't Believe In Religion Do They Still Celebrate Christmas An Why?

Answer Question

Sometimes, it is just a tradition. Their parents have celebrated it and so they carry it on. The meaning of it seems to have been forgotten, but a lot of people love the feeling of christmas and so they carry it on just to enjoy the season of it. It is just a repetition of what their parents did.

I'm an atheist, and I don't celebrate Christmas.  At least, as much as I can.  I work with a bunch of very, very serious Christians who don't know I'm an atheist, so while I'm at work, I take part in the Christmas lunch and all that, but that's mostly because I don't want to out myself as an atheist and make my work environment miserable.  But at home--and with my family and friends--Christmas is just another day.  I give gifts and affection and love and charity all year round.  I don't need a religious holiday to compel me to do these things.

It's what i did as a kid. It's cold in the winter, and besides, it would be nice to give and receive presents from my loved ones. And besides, Santa is as real as any god.

For a lot of people, the Christian meaning of Christmas is lost.  For many, Christmas has become a completely secular holiday with no links to religion at all.  Since it's a secular holiday for many people, some atheists treat it more like 4th of July than as a faith based holiday.
