What Is The Transamerica Corporation?

The Transamerica Corporation, which is located in the United States, is an insurance and investment company. Transamerica started out as the holding company under the control of A. P. Giannini. It also possessed the Occidental Life Insurance Company, and its intention was to create a nationwide bank.
The Corporation dissociated itself from its banking concerns, due to the passing of the Bank Holding Company Act in 1956.
Transamerica only retained the life insurance, property, and casualty insurance operations. Over the next 2 decades, the company became increasingly diversified with its subsidiaries including United Artists, Budget Rent a Car, Transamerica Airlines, and a manufacturer of machinery. The company's headquarter was located in the Transamerica Pyramid skyscraper, which was completed in 1972, where it remained for many years. It sold all operations un-related to insurance and it's other financial services were sold of in the 1980s.
