Roman roads were well-known for being straight and well-made. Romans made a lot of money through trade in Europe. They used the roads very frequently for trade. Also with a large amount of western Europe conquered by the Romans, they needed to build good roads with simple directions to enable the army to move to any place quickly. A good road made it easier for the rulers to control their empire and messages and orders could be transmitted within no time. The Romans would rather construct their roads around a natural obstacle than think of breaking it down and going through it. The roads constructed were simple and smooth. It is the Romans’ expertise in the field of civil engineering and road works from which we derive all roads lead to Rome, the famous proverb in the English language.
