Long story short, RAM is short for Random Access Memory, so if your computer has less than 1GB of RAM it'll be slower than a sleeping snail when you try to play Crysis or watch HD video files.
If your computer has more than 4GB of RAM it'll be faster than Speedy Gonzalez(from Looney Tunes).
