What Can You Tell Me About Chicago?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Set on the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is visually stunning, its skyscrapers soaring apparently out of the Great Lake. Nicknamed "The Windy City" in 1893, the epithet is not weather-related but rather the verbose outpourings of its one-time politicians.

As diverse a city as you will find, Chicago has grown from an outpost of 350 to today's vibrant and modern metropolis. Chicago of the 21st Century is a cosmopolitan center that's famed for its striking architecture and globally-respected for its excellence in the arts. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine a city more removed from its Roaring Twenties reputation as the stomping ground of gangsters like Al Capone.

Once reliant on heavy industry and meatpacking, Chicago's modern economy is carving a niche in communications, information technology, finance, and research and development. Highly rated as an ideal location for business, Chicago underlines this by being headquarters to 30 of America's largest companies: among them Boeing, Motorola and McDonalds.
