Pevensey is a small village located on the south-east coast of the county of East Sussex in southern England. The village is famous for its castle. The castle of Pevensey was constructed between 300 and 340 by the Romans during the period when Britain was very much a part of the Roman Empire. During this period the southern and eastern region were under regular attacks from barbaric tribes of Jutes and Saxons.
The southern and eastern coastline of Britannia combined together was known as "the Saxon Shore". Many huge forts were built to defend this coastline.
During the later period the castle was nearly destroyed when Queen Elizabeth I gave out orders for the demolition of the castle. Thought the castle still managed to survive as these orders were ignored.
