There has to be a rooster of course and it has to be warm enough. Also the chicken will probably lay a few eggs before putting them all together and sitting on them waiting for them to hatch. I believe it takes around 21 days I have heard someone say. I have never tried this. You can also make an incibator for the eggs and have them hatch in there with out the hen. I would surf the net to see how to build one. I know if you do this you have to have a light on them constantly and the temp has to be just right and you have to rotate the eggs a few times a day so it can be quite time consuming. When a hen is about 22 weeks it starts to lay eggs.If either the hen is sitting on the egg or you have it in a warm place the egg will hatch in about 21 days. But you have to take care of the eggs the proper way for them to hatch. Make sure to rotate your egg twice a day.
