What Causes Itching Skin?

An itch basically is a sensation which is felt on a particular section of the skin, which causes and individual or animal to want to scratch that particular section. Itching of the skin is caused due to many different reasons like, due to allergy, insect bites and stings, sunburn, ageing skin, contact dermatitis, contact irritants, atopic dermatitis, rashes, pityriasis rosea, psoriasis, etc. The main chemical concerned with itching is histamine, which is a molecule discharged by mast cells in the skin. Histamine is the chemical which results in itch and reddening when stung by insects.

An itch caused because of histamine is passed on along the equivalent pathway as pain, but fresh research conducted has found that itching has its own neural ways
