Is A Contract Legal If It Is Not Signed By The Director Of A Company?

I have a shop, a advertising company came into my shop and made the manager sign a Purchase Order for £1000 worth of advertising, I then advised the company that I did not require the advert and that the manager was not an authorised signatory for the company. They are still stating that the Purchase Order must be upheld, is this correct?

If the manager is not the authorized signatory, then the contract is not correct. Even if you dont have the signature of the director, he should have assigned an authorized signatory on company's behalf.
