Who Built The Pyramids?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The pyramids in ancient Egypt were built by hundreds of thousands of different people and were designed and constructed as the place of burial for the ancient rulers of Egypt, the Pharaohs. The pyramids are vast structures that are square in plan, with triangular sides that slope to meet each other at an apex. The three pyramids at Giza are the largest and finest of their kind. The Great Pyramid of Khufu of Cheops at Giza was built around 2650 BC. This is the largest of the pyramids and was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

The pyramid is a solid mass of limestone blocks that covers 5.3 hectares. It was originally 147 metres high and it took twenty years to build. The entrance to the pyramid is in the northern wall and a small passage leads through various chambers into a main burial chamber that is set deep within the pyramid.
