What Is A Box Office Bomb?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A box office bomb is a film which has failed to gain back the cost of the production and marketing by a significant amount. In other words, it is a film which has made a substantial loss at the box office.

Films which have failed to make a profit at the box office are still considered to be box office bombs even if a profit is eventually made from video/dvd release and television showings.

Some box office bombs can cause film studios to go bankrupt. Films which have failed considerably at the box office include 'Waterworld' (though this was successful overseas), 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within', 'Treasure Planet', 'Raise the Titanic'.

Other box office bombs include 'Cutthroat Island', 'My Big Fat Independent Movie', 'Speed 2: Cruise Control', 'Thunderbirds', 'Star Trek: Nemesis', 'Arthur and the Invisibles', 'The Adventures of Pluto Nash'.
