A departmental store is a retail store which is sells variety of products. Departmental stores sell the finished goods to the consumers like apparel, appliances, furniture, cosmetics, jewelry, toiletries and electronics. One type of departmental stores is known as discount departmental stores which have central customer checkout area in the front of the store. Departmental stores can be privately owned or they can also be a part of a retail chain. There are seven types of departmental stores including Upscale department stores, Mid-scale department stores, Mid-Range department stores, Comparison to Upscale Department store, Discount stores, Comparison to Mid-Range stores and Off-Price Retailers.
