Numbered bank accounts are provided by the Swiss bank to majority of their customers. Characteristically the account has a codename with it to help the both the banker as well as the customer.
This method helps prevent confusion among the banker and the customer as to which account is being talked about. The main aspect about numbered accounts is the customer's name is not revealed on the bank statement, just the number and the code-name is displayed. This indicates that if the bank statement is misplaced or stolen, it will not be immediately revealed as to who the account belongs to.
Even though numbered accounts might offer some anonymity, the current Swiss law now necessitates all banks to know the identity of their clients.
