Where Can I See American Indian Rock Art In The Southwest U.S.?

Rock art sites are widespread throughout the Southwest, some readily accessible in public areas, some requiring a four-wheel-drive trip to a very remote site.
At some sites, fences keep viewers back a few feet; alas, rock art is very often subject vandalism.
In Arizona, panels are easily viewed in Anasazi ruins like Canyon de Chelly or Wupatki National Monument, the Kayenta area, Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Rocks State Park.
In California, the most spectacular glyphs are in the south, notably those of the Coso Range on the China Lake Naval Weapons Station. Contact the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest for tour information.
In Southern Nevada, Grapevine Canyon and Valley of Fire State Park have many fine panels.
The most famous site in Colorado is Pictograph (Petroglyph) Point in Mesa Verde National Park.
In New Mexico, glyphs are found in El Morro National Monument and Three Rivers State Park. Petroglyph National Monument contains thousands of readily viewed images.
In Texas, visit the caves of Seminole Canyon State Park or Hueco Tanks.
But by far, some of the most spectacular and accessible rock art sites in the continent are in southeast Utah. The city of Moab offers a guide to sites along the nearby Colorado River. Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park has life-sized images of mysterious "anthropomorphs" (figures that may or may not be entirely human). One of the most famous panels in North America is the huge, elaborate site in Newspaper Rock State Park. Rock art is also prevalent in Capital Reef National Park's Pleasant Creek Canyon, and on Sand Island and along the San Juan and Green rivers.
