How Old Was Wordworth When He Became The Poet Laureate?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

After the death of Robert Southley in 1843, Wordsworth became The Poet Laureate at the age of 73. His compilation and written poetry work came to a halt after the death of his daughter Dora in 1847.

William Wordworth expired in the year 1850 at Rydal Mount but was buried at St. Oswald's church in Grasmere.

His widow Mary went on to publish his autobiography "Poems to Coleridge" as The Prelude after his death. Though this gathered minimal interest in 1850, but since then has been recognized as a masterpiece. Modern critics believe his work steadily started to decline in the mid 1810's. But this decline was referred more to his change in lifestyle and beliefs. The work of Wordsworth and Coleridge particularly "Lyrical Ballad" is discussed a lot in the 2000 movie Pandaemonium.
