This is not a stupid question at all!! I think that one can only really begin to understand and learn about love though experience. I was with someone for 6 years and thought I was in love but suddenly, one day, I knew it wasn't right. I wasn't happy, he didn't make me happy so I left. Then several months later I met someone new and after being together for almost a year I know that this is the first time that I have ever really felt love. All you can do is follow your heart and your instincts and do what feels right and makes you happy.

Falling in love or even understanding it isn't associated with age but actually with your maturity level. Not to mention there are different forms of love. I mean you love your parents and family. Throughout life you have several close friend whom you love. However, I am assuming you are talking about the love you may be feeling for someone who you are dating or would like to date. Like i said understanding love is something that you learn over time, as you grow up and become more mature you will learn what true love is and what it feels like. You will be able to tell the difference between actual love and just a crush. Just give it time and you will know.
