Where Is Darien Province?

Darien Province is a province that is located in the eastern province of Panama. The province of Darien is a very humid, hot, sparsely populated and heavily forested. In the year 1501 the province of Darien was first discovered by the Europeans. In the year 1503 when Christopher Columbus landed on this island on his fourth voyage.

Santa Maria la Antigua del Darien' was the first European colony that was established in the year 1510 in Darien. It was the first European colony to be established in South America. However this establishment did not prosper for long and the colony was soon abandoned.
