There is no definitive answer to this question, because it really depends on your usage. Different companies offer a variety of pre-paid deals, based on two variables. The first is how long the pre-paid credits last for, and the second thing is the price. You tend to find that credits that last longer are more expensive, and credits with a short use-by date are cheaper (so as to encourage you to use it all up and buy another one). These are the two things you need to look out for, and then just compare the prices of the companies offering them. An email account for spam mail is a good place to look for mobile phone deals.
