There are various methods. You are like me, too lazy to fiddle out the reading glasses from your handbag for the simple purchase of a newspaper, I either use a five or 10 Euro note and take the change. Larger amounts I usually pay by card, but in the course of some days, my handbag gets quite heavy with the change I carry. So it goes into a nice pot of China I have parked at home next to my handbag. By the next change of season I always have the feeling I need a new pair of shoes, which coincides with the pot being full with money. I take it to the money counting machine at my bank, and whoops, there are always around 150 Euros! Enough for that nice pair of --you know. Now I have a neighbour, an old lady, who has several pairs of different coloured socks. She throws the 1 Cent into the blue, the 2 Cent into the red sock etc. and so on. But she keeps them all at home, so she must be quite rich by now - but then, she wears the same pair of shoes for 25 years!
