Like taimur said, the best way is not to use it. Hackers will hack into anything regardless of the protection you have. Hence their name, "Hackers" that's what they do.
But if you must shop online and I know some things are only online, then I suggest you put some money into a visa gift card or any type of gift card. Put a set limit of what you want in the card. Basically its like a debit card but only with gift cards. So let's say you out $100 on the gift card and if someone else steals that gift card number, you'll be only losing $100 instead of the whole bank acct plus them stealing your acct number too.
Another way is that if you apply to citicards, they have this virtual acct number set up for you so the third party will never know your real acct number. If they try to steal that virtual acct number, nothing will happen because its not a real acct. I know because I have a citicorp. And they are great on points for the first year.

The best way to protect your credit card information over Internet is not to use your credit card. Yea, i am serious. Credit card is not a safe method on Internet. Find alternative modes of payment, like Internet cash, money order, bank transfer, etc.. Or if in case, you can't find any alternative mode, then shop on those sites that offer SSL-128 bit security . It protects credit card holder information to such extent.

Firewall, antivirus, spyware, adware are useless in front of the hackers. They can protect your information on your pc, but hackers usually catch info while transferring from your pc to online shop. Firewalls and antivirus can't do anything.
