What Is Sampling?

    A part of the population which is selected from population in the belief that it will represent the characteristics of the population is called sample and the process of selection of a sample is called sampling. Sampling is with replacement if the selected unit is replaced to the population before selecting the next unit. Sampling is said to be without unit if the selected unit is not replaced to the population before selecting the next unit. The sampling in which each member of the population has a known probability is called probability sampling. The sampling in which personal judgment determines that which unit of the population are selected for a sample is called non probability sampling. A population from which a sample is selected is known as sampled population. A sampled population should be such that its results are extendible to the target population. Moreover, a statistics is a numerical characteristics of the sample.
