Can A Landlord Charge Extra (including Security Deposit) For Carpet Stain And Cleaning Services?

Please help!!?? I recently recieved a letter in the mail from my previous apt. Complex stating that I owed 450$. I was expecting to see a check for my existing security deposit. I have a detailed move in inspection and witnesses. I have a move out inspection that the landlord made and witnesses to cleaning. The only thing I dont have is pictures. Can they really charge me extra for a shower being dirty and one stain on the carpeting that we made when there were already preexsisting stains on my move in inspection?

Normal wear and tear she cannot charge you for. The shower is a bit over the top. It is always a good thing to take pictures before and after you move out of a place, so there is no disputes. Seek an attorney, however, your going to loose because your attorney is going to cost also but if it is about principal then go get your attorney.

You must have some witness and proof that you have left the apartment clean and clear. Though you can sue your landlord about it as you are clear in your thoughts. Please also read your agreement which you made at the time when you had taken the apartment on rent.

It is totally unfair what your landlord is demanding from you. You didn't tell that have you received a legal letter or notice or it was just a simple letter? My suggestion is to consult your lawyer and battle with your landlord in the court for your rights.

It also depends on how long you resided there.
Like para101 said, normal wear & tear is expected.
You can't have $$ deducted for that.
How dirty are we talking for the shower ?
Even a dirty shower though only costs a few dollars to clean up.
      You shouldn't be charged anything.
Does he have pictures of the shower & stain ?
I would take him to Small Claims Court either way.
The same thing happened to me.
I settled for 1/2 of the deposit back through the court, although the Mediator knew the landlord was lying & brought in falsified pictures.
They can tell who's telling the truth and who's lying.
Give it a shot & good luck !!
      =)
