First add the whole numbers together. So 3+4=7. Now add the fractions together. 3 quarters=1 quarter ==1 . One is a whole number, so you simply add it to the whole numbers you added at the beginning. 7+1=8 . So your answer is 8.

When you add fractions what i do is try to put them in decimal form if it is possible. So if we do this in this case we will get:
      3.75+4.25 which will be
      8.00
      0 0
