What Does Pantograph Means?

A pantograph comes from the Greek roots meaning 'all, every' and 'to write'. It is basically a mechanical linkage associated in an exceptional method based on parallelograms so that they function in a set rapport to each other.

The initial pantograph was made in the year 1630 by Christoph Scheiner, who applied the gadget to re-create diagrams. One are of the pantograph has a petite pointer and the other held a diagram implement, and by using the pointer over a diagram, a replica of the diagram was made on another piece of paper.

By altering the points of the pantograph, the scale of the image created could be altered. Later on a more complex version known as eidograph was created by William Wallace in the year 1831.
