What Famous Musicals And Songs Did Andrew Lloyd Webber Produce/write?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    The list is pretty long.

    Musicals:
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Les Miserables, Starlight Express, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera (obviously the modern version, the story is much older).

Perhaps the best known songs from these shows are:

I don't know how to love him (Jesus Christ Superstar)
Don't Cry for me Argentina (Evita)
    Memory (Cats), and
The Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera).

Webber composed much of the music in his famous early works with lyricist Tim Rice (Sir Tim, to you and me).  Unlike Webber who rarely makes public appearances, Rice is a frequent participant on the Radio 4 programme: Just a Minute.

It has become fashinable among some elements of the British intelligentsia to sneer at Webber's musicals as popularist and unoriginal.  However, they continue to be good earners at the box office and (generally) big hits abroad, too.  They are among the most famous and respected of all original dramatic musical productions written in the last 50 years.
