How Do You Build An English Cottage?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A cottage is a kind of a dwelling, normally in a rural or semi rural locality. An English cottage refers to a house that is one and a half storeys, in which on the top floor one must walk into the eaves if one wants to look out of the window. This generally means that the timbers of the eaves overlap into the living space, and very frequently in recently done up houses, the relevant timbers can be revealed emphasizing the true cottage feel. However, in the majority of other circumstances, the term refers to a small, usually comfortable dwelling.

Initially, the term cottage referred to the house of a cotter. Hence, cottages were seen as homes for lower class peasants.
