To Which Country, Or Countries, Are The San People Native To?

Answer Question

The San people, often referred to as bushmen, are the aboriginal people of Southern Africa.  The San are indigenous to the Kalahari Desert, stretching across South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, and are related to the Khoikhoi people. The San, the official name in South Africa, sometimes prefer to be called bushmen.  San is sometimes considered as a negative title although, bushmen is not much better.  Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe do not have an official title for the San people and Botswana uses the term Basarwa, which also has negative connotations.  The San people, themselves, identify themselves by their group names, such as Ju/'hoansi and !Kung (the punctuation marks are used to represent the different clicks in their native tongue). With a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and culture stretching back over twenty thousand years, this group of people are now facing extinction with, approximately, only one hundred and ten thousand San remaining.  With more open lands, of Africa, being transformed into National Parks and Game Reserves, the San people are now facing a battle, with the government, to win back the right to roam freely on the lands that they have always called home.
