As the crow flies the distance between Madrid (the capital city of Spain) and London (the capital city of the UK) is 785 miles or 1263 kilometers.

Of course there are various methods of doing the journey between the countries. The simplest and cheapest method is to fly. The market in cheap flights between the two countries is so competitive that it it is possible to find a flight from Malaga, Barcelona, Madrid or any of the other important cities, to London or other UK cities for as little as ten British pound or fifteen euros.

The journey can also be done by road. From Madrid you should head northeast to the Pyrenees and the border with France. Then across France to Calais where there is a choice of the train through the Channel Tunnel or the ferries across the English Channel. The motorways in both Spain and France are very good but they are tolled, the rates being much higher in France than in Spain. The journey covers a distance of about 1800 kilometers or 1100 miles.

An alternative journey takes the traveler north to the port of Bilbao or Santander, from where a ferry can take you to Plymouth or Portsmouth in the UK. The crossing times vary from 18 to over 24 hours.
