Dennis the Menace the famous comics character from the magazine The Beano is the longest running comic strip characters of the magazine first featuring in Issue 452 on March 17, 1951. The comic strip known at present as Dennis and Gnasher has been drawn by several artists over the years; the first artist associated with the strip was David Law (1950-1971) followed by David Sutherland (1970-1998).

In recent times David Parkins, Nigel Parkinson and Jimmy Hansen have done the artwork for the strip. The storyline deals with the antics of Dennis along with his pet dog Gnasher and pet pig Rasher and sidekicks Curly and Pie-Face and his campaigns against the Softies a gang of kids who are opposites to Dennis and his friends in all respects.

Dennis' trademark attire consists of a striped red and black jumper and his spiky untidy hair along with of course his mischievous smirking grin have become his most recognized features. A cartoon show Dennis the Menace based on the comic strip appeared on BBC One in 1996 followed by another series in 1998. Dennis the Menace is also the name of another comic strip character created by Hank Ketcham appearing in newspapers in the United States.
