    Cape Verde or Republic of Cape Verde is a republic in the Macaronesia ecoregion. The latter is an archipelago of the western coast of Africa and is found in the North Atlantic Ocean. The Macaronesia group near Europe belongs to countries: Portugal, Spain and Cape Verde. The archipelagos belonging to this group are: Azores (Portugal), Madeira (Portugal), Canaries (Spain), Cape Verde (Cape Verde) and Savage Islands (Portugal).

    These islands are volcanic in origin and are considered to be formed of many geological hotspots.

    Cape Verde is positioned at 14.55' N latitude and 23.31' W longitude. It has an area of 4033 sq Km. According to the 2005 census; it holds a population of 507,000. Originally, this island was uninhabited. The Portuguese set up their colonies here in the fifteenth century. Cape Verde has ten islands and eight islets. Portuguese is the official language here. Cape Verdean Crioulo languages are also spoken.
