My Seven Year Old Golden Retriever Has A Foul Odor Coming For Her Right Ear What Could It Be?

Answer Question

Sounds like ear infection, most likely caused by mites.  Get ear wash and mitecide.  When infection is caught early, the dog usually doesn't need antibiotics and infection will clear with removal of the mites.  Would wash and treat both ears and ck any other dogs you have.

If you recently gave the dog a bath it could be that water got into her ears. This will sometimes cause and infection or ear mites. You vet should be able to tell you what it is with a simple swab of the ear, but if you can't get to the vet you can try an ear cleaning solution. They not only clean the ear but they also dry the canal and change the ph (acidity) making microorganisms dislike the area. Do Not use a Q-Tip or alcohol to clean the dogs ear, try using a cotton ball that is not small enough to go more than 1/2in into the canal. If you must use an at home remedy try white vinegar 50:50 with water to cleanse. If the smell is very strong or she shakes her head and/or scratches her ears you SHOULD see your vet ASAP to have them check on this. Hope this helps!Heidi(I am not a vet so this information is strictly from my knowledge, experience with and reading about this issue)
