Is There Still Demand For After Dinner Speakers?

After-dinner speaking often conjures up images of a bygone era, of Victorian politeness and irrelevancy but the reality is that it still happens, more than many people realise. Apart from the family occasions such as weddings and anniversaries, there are many situations where an after dinner speaker is required.

Corporate functions such as award ceremonies or regional get togethers often provide a speaker as a motivational exercise or simply for entertainment. There is a growing market in comedians who can pretend to be a serious speaker for corporate occasions while the audience slowly realise that he or she is, in fact, nothing of the kind.

There are non-corporate opportunities as well, local groups who get together for philanthropic reasons, or perhaps sports or other social clubs, have dinners where a speaker will be provided for entertainment. There are many agencies that will provide sports personalities, television and radio stars or even ex-politicians to entertain and amuse.
