As it is said that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", books are only dangerous in the mind of the reader. Some books that may be thought of as dangerous and those that people want to ban are offensive to them only.

Some have been great works of literature. "Catcher in the Rye" was one of those books that became required reading in most american high schools. "The Wizard of Oz" and now I understand there is a case for banning the Harry Potter series. Some objections to these books are that they are not realistic. Well, kids grow up fast enough nowadays. Maybe a little more fantasy and imagination on the part of our youth would allow them to remain children a little longer and to grow into gentler and more thoughtful adults. Can you imagine Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain as objectional books?

While it is true that some books contain material unsuitable for certain age groups, they can be isolated in libraries. Parents should monitor what their children read, rather than censor the material for everybody. How puritanical!
