There are a number of possible reasons for spitting up blood in the mornings. If you have recently had a bad cold you could have damaged your throat causing it to bleed. Another possibility is if you have a dry nose or a sinus infection the dryness will run to your throat during the night and appear with mucus in the mornings. There could be a problem with your gums or it could be linked to a nosebleed.
The medical term for spitting up blood is Haemoptysis. Other more serious possibilities are a blood clot in the lung, or laryngitis. There is also a possibility it could be Goodpasture's syndrome, which causes haemorrhaging of the lungs due to an attack by the immune system. Cancer, Pneumonia and Tuberculosis can also cause you to spit up blood. The possibilities are so wide ranging that if this persists then a visit to an ear, nose and throat specialist is the best course of action.
If you feel that you are spitting up blood due to a sinus infection then there are a number of cough suppressants available that might ease the effect this infection has on your throat. If you are coughing up more than a teaspoon of blood then this could be a serious condition and medical help should be sought immediately. A doctor will ask you how much blood you are coughing up, if it is mixed with phlegm and also how often it has happened. They may also ask if the amounts have increased since it began. Tests a doctor may run to establish the causes include a CT scan, a chest X-ray, a complete blood count and a lung scan.

Hi. Symptoms : No Coughing like in TB, No Pain in Body anywhere, No Blood in stool / urine. Only sometimes blood in spit after a HOT SPICY meal and sometimes ACIDITY and Itching in the membrane of throat. Everything found NORMAL in X-RAY and blood-test. I also had the same symptoms.
It is mainly related to Acids / Hormones that generate in the Body. This-balance of these are the coz of this problem.
It is related to PITTA DOSHA in Ayurvedic. Milk, COCONUT, sweet fruits, white rice etc. Is good. Avoid HOT, SPICY, RED MEAT etc. Which generate heat in body OR TOO COLD in Nature like ICE-WATER, CURD etc.. Search Pitta Dosha and its resolution through Diets on Internet. It will be cured.

I am going to give you 2 answers but keep in mind, I am not a doctor and do not pretend to know all the answers on an absolute basis.  One possibility is that you have a sinus infection and it drains into your throat at night.  Another possibility is that your nose is drying out when you use the heater and it may be bleeding slightly and draining down at night.  There are, however, other possibilities.  I would suggest that you see a physician.l

That can be a sign of gastric reflux irritation in the esophagus or something as simple as gum disease.  Spitting up blood is a serious condition.  Get it checked out.

Ive had a horrible sore throat, and woke up in the morning with blood clots sticking to my blankets and pillows ...I'm guessing they came from coughing in my sleep. They are alittle larger then a quarter and bright red. I was so scared I ran to the doctor, who said severe sinus problem can cause this or a virus that attacks mucus membranes ??
