The Romans first invaded Britain in 55 B.C under the command of Ceasar. He returned to France after winning several battles and came back again next year, in 54 B.C and succeeded in crossing the Thames River. Aicha has beat me to it again. The first invasions occurred in 55-54 B.C. The brits proved to be a formidable force. I believe the name Britannicus was given to julius ceaser in celebration of his conquests there. Greater Britain did not get subjugated til 43 B.C. During the reign of Claudius.
