When Were The First Movies Released?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In the late 1800s, the first talking movies were made by French Leon Gaumont.  He used the aid of a gramophone to use sound, which will synchronize with the ongoing movie.  Those initial talking movies were short pictures having wonderful performers like Sarah Bernhardt.

Things changed for the better in the early 1910's when Eugene Lauste came to know about the basic and effective method to record sound on film.  The innovation was provided the strong succor of Thomas Edison, who was responsible for producing many one-reel talking pictures in the United States.  Later on, another American Lee de Forest enhanced the system further.

The real break came with 'The Jazz Singer' in 1927- a silent movie starring Al Jolson containing four talking and singing interludes.  The improved quality of the sound managed to grab the viewers' attention and so the first talking movie beheld its success.  The trend followed and modified and delivered excellently until the decade of the 1930's came.  By then, silent movies had become a thing of the past and talking movies had taken over the world by storm.
