Rabbit Quit Eating. Is There Anything I Can Do Before I Take Him To The Vet?

My rabbit just quit eating and hardly drinking. He will eat a few pieces of pineapple though. I think he may have a blockage? Is there anything I can do before I take him to the vet? Thanks

When rabbits stop eating and drinking this is an emergency.  Rabbits are prone to ileus (gut stasis--when the intestines stop moving ingesta through).  Gas builds up in the intestines;  food/ingesta can become impacted in the stomach.  This can be fatal without treatment--I would not wait to have him examined by a veterinarian.  It can be fatal with treatment as well--I had a pet rabbit die from this disease process with aggressive care.  I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and your little friend.

Thank you so much! He isn't going to the bathroom that much either, so I will def call the vet tomorrow! I think he may have ate the one part on the vacuum cleaner and it was hard plastic and I think that may have caused a blockage?? Thanks for your thoughts! this is a comment from Sshuston , CONVERTED FOR HIM (OR HER)

Thanks for the info, that is helpful I will try the vinegar water next time he does this. I took him to the vet on Monday and here he was just dehydrated bc he either had a hairball or some other type of blockage, and they gave him a shot and gave me an antibiotic to give him along with an IV bag once a day until he is eating on his own again and he pretty much is doing that today, he is going to the bathroom more and he seems more perky, so hopefully this will work. But he is still choking at night, we wake up bc he just like chokes or hacks away like he can't breathe or something, but the vet said this antibiotic should help with that too, but it hasn't worked on that yet, just maybe in time?

We used to have rabbitry with 200 breeding does, and sometimes they got a disease the vet called 'mucoid enteritis'.  They wouldn't eat, drink, or evacuate; just sat with their forepaws in the water dish and ground their teeth.   Are you seeing this?  He told us to put vinegar in their water, which helped some, but most of our survivors we put in a small SAFE pen for several hours a day where they could freely choose from a variety of greenery, and they seemed to know which plants would help.  Hope this helps you both feel better.
