Cardiff Bay is the area that is formed by the Cardiff Barrage, which comprises of two rivers namely, Taff and Ely. These rivers form a new freshwater lake around the previous dockland region, which is to the south of the city centre of Cardiff in south Wales.

The Cardiff Bay Development Corporation was started in 1987. This project was initiated for the redevelopment of the rural areas. The Development Corporation was initiated to draw private funds by spending public money, in order to bring a change in the place. In spite of antagonism by environmentalists and wildlife organisations, they were several mud flats at the River Taff and River Ely, and this in turn caused loss of territory for wading birds.
