Most of the experts agree that people are more productive when they work for 40 hours a week, that is for a duration of eight hours a day and five days a week, and their minds are fresh when they get a two-day weekend.
Every company is worried about a high rate of labour turnover in the organisation. The rate of labour turnover basically depends upon two factors, namely the rate of wages and the working hours and working conditions. An employee does not only leave the organisation if he or she is disillusioned with a low salary, but he or she may look for greener pastures in another organisation if he or she works long hours without overtime and holidays and in deplorable conditions.
Hence, it is practical for all organisations to introduce rules whereby an employee works for 40 hours a week, that is for a duration of eight hours a day and five days a week and has a two-day weekend.
