Newer models of explorers are just like a manual transmission the place to check is on the side of the transmission best bet its to take it to a ford shop.but if you chose to do it yourself you will need an pumpbucket its a bucket that holds oil and you pump it.lol pretty self explanatory but because of the angle of the place to fill it you will have to have one. There should be a place on the bottom of the transmission that has an allen wrench head on it that say check. But you need an expensive tool to check it.so like i said best bet is to take it to a ford shop. They dont make anything easy anymore.
