The largest tree in the world is the General Sherman a giant sequoia located in Sequoia National Park in California State, United States. The General Sherman rises to a height of 275 ft (84 m).

The tree by the volume of its trunk (1489 meter cube) is credited with being the largest of its kind in the world. The tree is more than 2000 years old and derives its name from General William Sherman an American leader in civil war times. The maximum diameter of the tree is found at its base and is measured to be 11 meters (about 36 ft); its circumference measured at the base is 31 meters (about 102 ft).

With respect to height the tallest tree in the world is the Coast Redwood which is related to the giant sequoias; coast redwood trees can grow to a height of up to 115 meters (380 ft).
