My Toilet Is Constantly Refilling Itself, What Do I Need To Do? Thanks

Answer Question

Most likely, water is leaking slowly (hard to see) from the tank to the bowl.  After the level in the tank gets down a 1/4" or so, the valve calls for more water.
It is probably a leak at the flapper.  You may just need a new flapper.
If you watch closely, you will probably see a faint trickle of water coming down the bowl--maybe away from the where the tank sits.

There are four possible answers. 1: The seat where the flapper sits (flush valve) could have something on it or could be scored. You can kightky sand the seat with emory cloth to clean it. If it is scored, you will have to replace it. 2: The flapper could be worn out. You will have to replace it. 3: The float ball, if you have one, may be bent down too much. Gently and slightly bend the arm the float ball is attached to upward. 4: The ball cock, that's the part that let's the water into the tank, could be bad. If so, you will have to replace the ball cock. Unless you are extremely handy, I would suggest you call in a plumber. Toilet tanks and bowls can break very easily if too much pressure is applied while tightening any of the nuts that hold the parts to the tank or toilet.
