What Home Improvements Can I Make?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The most important thing to do while going for home improvement is, to plan ahead. Ask friends, colleagues and neighbours for recommendations for the perfect home improvement plan. It is ideal to get at least four written estimates from contractors who have visited your home to give a valuation on what needs have to be taken care of during the home-improvement. The estimates should be based on the same work so that the comparisons make sense.

You should ask the contractors for customer references. Contact the references and find out if the service was upto the mark. Find out what the budget was and whether the work was completed in time. Your contractor should have the required ability, workers compensation insurance for the workers and property damage compensation insurance. Check if there is a 'broom clause' in your contract that makes the contractor accountable for all clean-up works like stain clearance and taking care of the spills. Do not pay by cash towards home improvement; consider payment options or plans. Make payments after completion of every part of the project. Make the final payment only after you are pleased with the work and know that all the suppliers and subcontractors have been compensated.
