    "Investors in people" refers to a business improvement tool that is designed to help businesses recognise the importance of staff performance. Its model is based on the business model of plan, do and review. It offers a framework for staff development that aims to improve the business itself through investment in its staff. The idea being that investing in staff creates happier workers that perform better.

    Businesses join the programme and then follow the given guidelines. The benefits for the business are said to include improved staff motivation, improved business earnings, and a higher level of customer satisfaction. Benefits for the employees include recognition, training and better career prospects.   

    All businesses that are part of the scheme will make sure that their employees will have a clear vision of what the company expects and what they intend to achieve in the future. "Investors in people" also offers benchmark examples for policies and training and development, so that businesses can monitor their economic standing and compare themselves to other businesses in the same or similar market.
