    La Paz basically is the managerial capital of Bolivia as well as the departmental capital of the La Paz Department. According to the census conducted in the year 2001 the total population of this region was said to be around one million.

    La Paz was established in the year 1548 by Alonso de Mendoza at the position of the Native American settlement which was known as Chuquiago. La Paz is positioned in the basin of the Choqueyapu River beneath a plateau with an altitude of 3,600 meters. La Paz is well known for its unique market, and extremely remarkable topography and conventional culture.

    In the year 1898, La Paz was converted into the de facto seat of the national government, with Sucre remaining the ostensible capital only.
