Is A Whale Shark A Vertebrate?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The whale shark is part of the subphylum Vertebrata making it indeed on of the vertebrates. Whale sharks are the largest sharks and the largest fish, with a mouth that can be up to 4 feet wide, measuring some 46 feet and weighing around 15 tons, and their skin is 4 inches thick!

These whale sharks have some 3,000 tiny teeth with little or no use since they filter plankton, krill, small fish and even squid through their massive gills to eat. These mammoth creatures can be found in warm waters, close to the equator, and tend to swim alone rather then in herds. Whale sharks can live 100-150 years with really no predators other then boats. Since Whale sharks swim and feed close to the surface they have been known to not only be run into by boats but they have been known to run into boats themselves!
