If Your 4th Cousin With Someone, Is That Too Close To Date Them?

I'm going to have to agree with my Mother on this one. It probably is alright as long as it's accepted by your family.  If not, you're both in for a world of hurt.  You will have to deal with other family members whispering, friends doing the same and family awkwardness at holiday gatherings and such.  It won't be an easy relationship.

Oooohhh Kaitelyn, I suspect as a granny I shouldn't tell you this, but you are in luck.  Don't do anything you shouldn't, but 4th cousins are distant enough relatives to be safe.  I think the general understanding is 3rd cousins and beyond.  I hope your parents don't get upset.  Try to do as they'd like.  I remember when I was in my very early teens, I thought I was madly in love with my 4th cousin too - that's how come I had the answer as soon as I saw the question.  Unfortunately - or maybe it was fortunately - nothing came of my cousinly romance.  We moved far away and he met a pretty blonde.  Good luck (and do be good, okay?)

The genetics are on your side. 3rd cousins and [those more distant] are considered in the South to be "kissing Cousins" because you can marry them.
