    It takes a long time really, because people crave them for a long time after quitting, that is why so many people have such a hard time quitting, they crave for so long. Hope this helps.

    Often, the craving is an emotional attachment to the feelings that go with smoking, or to the feeling of calmness that comes from a hit of nicotine. The physical addiction is broken within a few days. The emotional addiction can last a very long time--or not, depending on the treatment and/or the reasons for starting, continuing, and quitting.
