My Min-pin 2 Year Old Dog Seems To Have Allergies? He Has A Hard Time At Times Breathing. What Can I Do If I Don't Go To A Vet?

Answer Question

If it is his allergies you can go and buy CHILDRENS benadryl and give that to your dog. You can call your local vet and ask how much you would give the dog. It is alot cheaper than taking him to the vet.

I called the Vet and asked about the amount for the Benadryl. It was a 1/2 teaspoon. It really helped. I thank you and this site for helping me out. I love how this works. Thank you once again. My little guy seems happier :)

You would want to be sure it's allergies and not a medical problem first (like the heart or in the throat or something). Then you can try the childrens benadryl and your vet may be able to give you the proper dosage according to medical history and weight. Feeding a good food helps the most usually though it's from the inside out and isn't a quick fix. It usually works better than the benadryl because many dogs are allergic to their food and all the chemicals, preservatives, and corn (and other things). They're healthier and live longer with less trips to the vet for problems caused by allergies among a ton of other things :-).
I'm adding some links to some information on food and some reasons why NOT to feed a commercial brand, and a site you can see some information, ratings and reviews of many high quality foods so you can find one you like near you and also another link so you can figure out if a reverse sneeze may be contributing to your pup's problem (unless it's a collapsed trachea). There's videos. Hope he feels better soon!

Your welcome :-). And thank you so much for checking in, lol. The food thing can be pretty scary once you learn what's in a lot of them and how many problems it can actually cause :-). And many people do not realize how allergic their dogs are to their food (their advertising helps that for sure I think) or even that all those trips to the vet often can be allergies. Please keep us updated. I'm really glad he seems to be feeling better.

I read all the articles that you kindly gave me. It is amazing how awful these foods are. I never realized how badly they were. I decided to cook for them. Once in awhile will have to get a can or two but at least I know what to get now. I had decided to give him (Kid) chicken and rice. Homemade. Between a better feeding and the Benadryl that was recommended by Breeh on this site - certainly doing much better. Thanks for your help! :)
